likeaword is a boutique consultancy focused on digital skills in emergencies.

It was created and is led by Ben Proctor who has a background in emergency planning, public relations and technology.

We have four main areas of work:

we work with emergency planners, risk managers and business continuity managers in large organisations and category one responders.
We provide specialist training and consultancy around online technology, open data, social media and mobile. We provide input into planning providing plausible scenarios and technical input. We design and run social media exercises as well as providing technical input into wider exercises. We train planners, managers and responders so they understand how the new technology affects them and can make effective use of it in a crisis.

we work with small and medium organisations to provide business continuity consultancy.
Business continuity planning is an important aspect of risk management for all organisations, especially growing organisations. We provide tailored consultancy helping managers and owners understand and analyse business risks and develop appropriate contingency arrangements. We also help local authorities provide business continuity awareness in their local economy .

we work with geographic and online communities.
Digital technology allows communities to organise and respond with great speed and robustness. Projects such as the Standby Task Force and Open Street Map manage huge and complex datasets and can provide huge benefit to people affected by emergencies and to responders. These tools can also be used to build resilience in geographic communities and we work with communities and responders to build skills and share expertise within communities.

we work with VCS responders.
We provide specialist consultancy and training to voluntary sector organisations with emergency response roles. Focused on crisis communications and the effective use of mobile and social media.
